The newly constructed Rs 6,000 croreplant to import LNG at Dhamra on the coast of Odisha will begin commercial operations towards the end of May, according to the French company TotalEnergies.
On April 1, the 5 million tonne per year port received its first ever supply of liquefied natural gas, a fuel that will be used to create fertilisers, steel and CNG as well as cooking gas.
The MilahaRasLaffan, a ship from Qatar, arrived at Dhamra port on April 1st in the morning with 2.6 trillion British thermal units of LNG, which would be utilised to commission the facility.
“This delivery enables the gradual commissioning of the terminal, which is expected to start commercial operations at the end of May 2023,” TotalEnergies said in a press statement.
