Chennai Port to hire technical consultant to provide DPR on improving road network within port premises

In order to guarantee efficient traffic flow inside the port’s boundaries, Chennai Port will shortly appoint a technical consultant to submit a thorough project report.

This is necessary because the flow of traffic within the port must change and become uncongested once the Chennai Port-Maduravoyal elevated corridor starts to take shape. In order to reduce traffic in the city, a $5,721 crore elevated corridor connecting Chennai Port and Maduravoyal has been planned.

In order to select a consultant to prepare a thorough project report for improving the internal road network inside the port to quickly convey the cargo from entry to departure, officials of Chennai Port Trust (CPT) have reportedly issued a request for proposals.

“Once the work of Port-Maduravoyal elevated corridor comes to a certain shape, the entire movement of traffic inside the port premises is likely to change. Today, 95% of the cargo entry is coming from the northern side of the port but this will shift to the south when the elevated corridor gets ready and the port should be able to take the traffic load. So, we have called for tenders for consultancy work. The internal road layout has to be worked out by this firm,” an official said.
