Indian Government Shares Progress on Green Energy Implementation in Latest Lok Sabha Session

The Indian government has responded to questions regarding the implementation of green energy in the country. The issue was brought up during the latest session of Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament.

One of the questions raised was the progress made in implementing the country’s target of having 175 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2022. In response, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy stated that as of January 31, 2022, India had installed a total of 101.47 GW of renewable energy capacity.

Another question asked about the measures taken to promote the use of electric vehicles in India. The Ministry of Power informed the Parliament that it had launched the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme in 2015, which has been extended until March 2024. The scheme provides financial incentives to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in the country.

In addition, the government was asked about the steps taken to encourage the use of solar energy in rural areas. The Ministry of Power replied that under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) scheme, the government provides funding for the installation of standalone solar power plants in villages.

The government also mentioned various other schemes and initiatives aimed at promoting the use of renewable energy in the country, such as the Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (KUSUM) scheme, which aims to install solar pumps and grid-connected solar power plants, and the National Solar Mission, which has a target of 100 GW of solar power by 2022.

The Lok Sabha session provided an opportunity for the government to update the public on its efforts to promote the use of green energy in India. The government’s responses demonstrated its commitment to achieving its targets and promoting a sustainable future for the country.
