The Dibang Multipurpose Project (MPP) in Arunachal Pradesh has received approval from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, which is presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to incur expenditures for pre investment activities and other approvals for a sum of Rs. 1600 crore. NHPC Ltd is developing the project. At the price level of June 2018, the estimated total cost of the project is Rs. 28080.35, which includes IDC & FC of Rs. 3974.95 crore. After receiving government approval, the project will likely take nine years to complete. The project shall generate 2880MW (12x240MW) power to produce 11223MU of energy in a 90% dependable year. This is the largest ever Hydro Electric Projects to be constructed in India. The dam is 278 metres high and will be the highest dam in India once completed.
