Uttar Pradesh govt allocates RS 1,150 crore for metro projects

The Uttar Pradesh government included Rs 1,150 crore for metro projects in the budget for fiscal 2023–2024 to improve the state’s public transportation system. According to the state’s finance minister, Suresh Khanna, 585 crore rupees have been set aside for the Kanpur metro, while 465 crore have been set aside for the Agra metro. Moreover, Rs 100 crore has been set aside for a detailed project report (DPR) on the metro projects in Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and other cities. The DPR is being created by the Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) and the for-profit Urban mass transit company limited. It includes a compressive mobility plan (CMP) on high-density lines and an alternative analysis report (AAR) for metro operation (UMTCL).
