Tangedco takes up feasibility study to build gas turbine power plants in North Chennai

Tangedco has begun a feasibility study to build gas turbine power plants capable of producing 2,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity in north Chennai.

The plan was to use the natural gas pipeline infrastructure available from Ennore to Thoothukudi to build gas turbine stations.

The study is being conducted in response to Electricity Minister V. Senthilbalaji’s announcement in the Assembly.

According to a senior Tangedco official, even though gas prices are currently high, the power utility plans to build gas-powered plants as part of its efforts to generate clean energy.

It will occupy the vacant space where the old thermal stations were located in Ennore, as well as the gas pipeline infrastructure facility.
