Government officials said that India will extend export privileges under a significant programme to local producers of green hydrogen fuel as the Asian country seeks to become a major provider of the clean fuel.
Following the start of exports, green hydrogen will also be covered by the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Export Products (RoDTEP) plan, according to the two officials, who declined to be identified since the talks were private.
One of the world’s biggest emitters of greenhouse gases, India has approved a $2.11 billion incentive plan to boost local production and encourage use of green hydrogen. The move is targeted to help the country achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070.
The country aims for annual production of 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen and hopes to provide at least 10% of global demand by 2030.
