The Pou Chen Corporation, a Taiwan-based company that is the largest contract producer in the world of branded casual and sports footwear, intends to build a new facility in Tamil Nadu. In this project, it may invest more than 500 crore rupees. High Glory Footwear India Private Limited is a subsidiary that the corporation has registered.
Leading Taiwanese shoe manufacturers like Feng Tay and Hong Fu already operate in Tamil Nadu.
According to a The Hindu BusinessLine story, the shoe business is close to choosing the location for the facility. The source said, “It will be a huge project for sports shoe manufacturing.”
The more than four-decade-old Pou Chen Corporation operates manufacturing and retail locations in Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, the US, and Mexico, serving international brands including Nike, Adidas, Puma, and others.
The company is looking for a 300-400 acre site to set up the factory and the Tamil Nadu Government has pitched in Tiruchii, Viluppuram and the port city of Thoothukudi as some of the possible locations.
