UP sets goal to woo Rs 50,000 crore green investments

The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government wants to entice private investments up to Rs 50,000 crore in the solar and bioenergy industries, riding the wave of the worldwide transition to green energy.

Over the next five years, the state wants to produce 22,000 megawatts (Mw) of solar energy. 6,000 Mw would come from rooftop solar power plants and 14,000 Mw would come from solar parks.

The government is also drafting a green hydrogen policy in line with the Centre. The Asia-Pacific region is expected to be the fastest growing in the global landscape in this decade.

State Energy Minister A K Sharma has directed officials to expedite the drafting of the policy for faster approval by the Cabinet. “The new and additional energy sector will play a major role in making the state a trillion-dollar economy. Efforts should be made to generate sources of employment in the sector,” he said.
