CF Industries and Mitsui pick thyssenkrupp Uhde for Blue Ammonia Project

Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (Mitsui) and CF Industries Holdings, Inc. have chosen thyssenkrupp Uhde as the technology supplier for a new blue ammonia facility in the United States (CF). Utilizing carbon capture and sequestration techniques to cut carbon emissions by more than 60%, the new greenfield factory will create blue ammonia. For the CF and Mitsui joint venture, thyssenkrupp Uhde will carry out a front-end engineering and design (FEED) research.

An export-focused greenfield blue ammonia project is intended to be built in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, USA. As a decarbonized energy source, blue ammonia demand is anticipated to increase dramatically due to its hydrogen content as well as its use as a fuel or feedstock.

CF and Mitsui had previously signed a joint development agreement that provides the framework for the FEED study. In addition, CF Industries had acquired land on the west bank of Ascension Parish, Louisiana, where the plant is proposed to be constructed.
