Indian fertiliser companies Coromandel International, Chambal Fertilizers, and Indian Potash Limited have signed anMoU with Canpotex, Canada, one of the world’s largest suppliers of potash, which exports about 130 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of product each year. This is a significant step toward ensuring the long-term availability of fertiliser for the farming community.
The domestic fertiliser industry has been encouraged by the government to build supply chains through long-term alliances with resource-rich nations. These collaborations guarantee the availability of fertilisers and raw materials throughout time and also offer price stability in unstable market conditions, given India’s substantial dependency on imports of raw materials and fertiliser minerals.
As part of the MoU, Canpotex, Canada will supply up to 15 LMT of potash annually for a period of three years to the Indian fertilizer companies. This supply partnership is expected to improve the fertiliser availability within the country and reduce supply side and price vulnerabilities.
