One of India’s oldest railway stations, Belagavi, which opened in 1881, has undergone renovations. In the lack of any finishing touches, it is prepared for the inauguration.
At a cost of Rs 210 crore, the station was refurbished.
The restoration is nearly finished, save a few minor details that will enhance the station’s appearance after 141 years.
The refurbished station is housed in a G+3 story structure. There are now four platforms instead of three, and a second entrance gate has been added for the general public on the Shastri Nagar side. For the benefit of senior residents, a lift, escalator, and ramps have been installed.
According to the railway officers, since the railway coach unit is being established in the city, it will help them start trains on new routes from Belagavi in the future.
