WB government approves Adani’s Tajpur greenfield port development

The proposed greenfield port at Tajpur in Purba (East) Medinipur was given approval by the West Bengal government to issue a letter of intent (LoI) to Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ).

The state government announced in a press release that the Cabinet has given the go-ahead for the West Bengal Maritime Board to issue a letter of intent (LoI) to APSEZ for the development of the Tajpur Port.

State Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim estimates that the project will cost Rs 15,000 crore, with an additional Rs 10,000 crore going toward port-led infrastructure development. He claimed that it would generate more than 100,000 employment indirectly in addition to 25,000 new jobs directly.

The statement from the government said that the deep sea port would usher in a new era of growth in the state, including the hinterland.
