The Tata group has held early discussions with the Wistroncompany, which has its headquarters in Taipei, about forming a joint venture to produce iPhones in India.
The salt-to-software giant may invest in the Taiwanese OEM’s Indian division (original equipment manufacturer).
Wistron already has a facility in India where it produces iPhones under contract for Apple Inc.
While the Tatas did not comment, sources close to Cupertino-based Apple said they were unaware and not part of any such talks. They pointed out that their vendors were free to talk to other companies and come to them if something was in the offing. There was no official comment from Apple.
