Airport at Parandur to be ready by 2028: Thangam Thennarasu

State industries minister ThangamThennarasu said that the Rs 20,000 crore greenfield airport for Chennai in Parandur will be constructed by 2028 with an investment-to-returns ratio of 100:325.

He also allayed the worries of local landowners by reassuring them that they would receive compensation that would be more than the going rate.

For a new airport to be built on 4,700 acres to serve Chennai’s passenger traffic needs for the next 30 to 35 years, the state government chose Parandur, 69 kilometres from Chennai.

After the new airport is constructed, the Meenambakkam airport in Chennai will continue to run.

“A high-level committee will be set up to suggest new technologies and schemes to preserve and maintain the water bodies, improve groundwater level in Parandur. The suggestions of the committee will be carried out to prevent shortage of water for the villages in and around Parandur and ensure that there is no flooding during rain,” he said in a statement.
