Construction on the 20.6km double-decker elevated highway between Chennai Port and Maduravoyal, which is being built at a cost of Rs 5,855, crore, is expected to begin in December or January, according to sources.
The Prime Minister Gati Shakti initiative has invited for bids for the building of a two-tier, four-lane elevated route from Port to Maduravoyal. Four separate packages will be built to create the elevated corridor.
The 12-km section of the 20.6-km corridor will have two levels. The goal is to acquire the land that belongs to the Indian Navy by constructing separate quarters for them on the army property at Saidapet, even though the project would take 24 to 36 months to complete
