Highways Department prepares DPR to widen Coimbatore bypass

In six months, the State Highways Department (National Highways wing) anticipates receiving a comprehensive project report for the widening of the Coimbatore bypass route.

An official from the department stated that the tender was just finalised after bids were requested to choose a consultant to write the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The plan called for widening the 28 km of two-lane road into a four-lane highway with service roads. The project’s overall cost was projected to reach close to 400 crore. This, however, wouldn’t be decided until after the DPR. If the plan were to be adopted, a flyover and overbridge on the length of road would also be enlarged.

This stretch of road, which was rapidly growing, was heavily utilised by cars travelling to or from Kerala.
