The segregation of the 5th and 6th lines on Central Railway’s Mumbai network between Thane and Diva has now been completed, enabling for total segregation of suburban and local-distance trains, according to news agency PTI.
Over a decade after the 5th and 6th lines between Kurla and Thane were commissioned, the local and express train paths were totally divided between Kurla and Kalyan, two significant network junctions.
“After the commissioning of the new railway lines, fast suburban trains will go parallel to existing slow lines via Kalva and Mumbra stations, instead of Parsik tunnel between Thane and Diva. The tunnel route will be used only for outstation trains,” an official said.
