The 19.88 km Chennai Port – Maduravoyal Motorway has received a total of 24 offers from 13 civil engineering companies since the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) launched technical bids.
Construction of a double-decker access-controlled elevated roadway with an alignment along the Cooum River under the Bharatmala Pariyojana is part of this four-lane project. Prime Minister Narendra Modilay the foundation stone for it in May 2022, at a cost of an estimated Rs 5,855 crore.
As per Nitin Gadkari’s recent tweet, “completion of this project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in Chennai by segregating local traffic movement onto one tier of the Elevated highway. Additionally, it will double the handling capacity of the port, reduce waiting times at the port, and decrease travel time for vehicles bound for the port by an hour.”
NHAI had invited tenders for its construction through 4 EPC packages in July 2022 with a 910 day construction deadline. Afcons and J Kumar are the only two firms that have bid for all 4 packages.
