The largest power generator in India, NTPC, recently revealed plans to invest more than 1 lakh crore in the construction of a green hydrogen centre in coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Installing 13.4 GW of solar panels and 6.6 GW of pumped storage as part of the project will be used to generate green hydrogen via electrolysis.
The project is anticipated to be finished by 2030, with the first half probably occurring in 2026–2027. The overall amount of renewable electricity capacity, including storage, will be 20 GW.
The area earmarked for the project is spread over 1,200 acres, which will be divided into two areas of 600 acres each and will feature an industrial and a hydrogen hub.
The industrial area will have manufacturing facilities for new energy technologies, such as electrolysers, fuel cells, batteries, solar wafers, solar modules, wind turbine equipment, and carbon capture systems.
